First Days

Today was the first day your mom started work (at Alorica/Ryla), so it was the first day I watched you from 1-10 pm.  (Those are her training hours for the next 5 weeks, then we'll see what sort of shift she'll get.)   Next week you start first grade!  So we'll have another day of firsts soon.  You were sooooo very good.  The sweetest parts were:

(1) Making cookies together (chocolate chocolate chip!).  We decided that a good incentive for you to behave in church, especially in your class when I'm not there, is if we can make cookies together afterwards when you're good.  Your teacher said yesterday that you were VERY good, as different as night and day from the first visit (not that you were horrible then, but you never raised your hand, you spoke off-topic, and you didn't like it when she called on anyone else).  I was SO relieved to hear that--I KNOW how good you are for me, and I just want everyone else to know how special and sweet you really are.  Anyway, now we'll make different cookies together each week you behave, and have those cookies for dessert/share them with the family for the week.

(2) Your kisses.  You love to ask, especially when you think someone is mad at you, "Do you know how much I love you?"  And today, especially, I needed to hear that.  But even better, my hip and back injury have been acting up a lot lately, so even getting up and sitting down took a lot of effort and really hurt.  But you just kept being a good helper, and then you gave me kisses on the cheek and hand all day to help me feel better.  At the very end of the day, we just held hands while we watched "Good Luck, Charlie" together.  You are so compassionate!

(3) FHE.  We haven't been very good about having FHE in a while, and with your mom and Paul both at work until LATE on Monday nights, it was just the two of us.  Also, since you're new-ish at Church and need to learn all the songs we've been working on all year long by mid-October for the primary program, I thought we'd center the first few FHEs on the music you love to sing so much.  We made pictures to help us remember the words to "The Lord Gave Me a Temple"...I'll post a picture for you to remember it by!

(4) Your prayers.  I'll probably say this a million times, but you are the BEST pray-er!  You always love to pray, and you thank Heavenly Father for each and every thing--sometimes multiple times--in the day that made you happy.  And you use words like "beautiful," "wonderful," "gorgeous," and "happy" a lot.  :)  Most kids your age say the same things over and over, but NO two prayers of yours are exactly alike.  I am learning so much about prayer and having a thankful heart from listening to you pray.

(5) Seeing how excited (and a little scared) you are for school.  Charissa took you to get school supplies today, and you just loved all of it.  We are so related!  And we talked for a little bit in FHE about how you were starting a new school and how we'd go register and show you around tomorrow, and even though it's all SO new, I'm hoping your first grade class will be amazing so you can love school again.  You really do love to learn, it's just the social aspects that are scary for you.  You worry so much about what other people think, it breaks my heart sometimes.  But hopefully you'll have a friend from primary in your class or something and you'll have a better teacher/principal than last year, and you can enjoy school like kids ought to!  :)
